Introduction The National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) is conducting a Health Facility Assessment in 9 states of Nigeria where NMCP is implementing a malaria control program supported by the World Bank. The objective of the assessment is to find the service provision and quality of services provided at the health centers. The assessment will be carried out by NMCP in collaboration with states and Local Government Areas (LGAs). The assessment will use standard health facility assessment tools and methods used worldwide. Geographic distribution of States The 9 states are located in two regions: North and South. They are again divided into 4 zones: Bauchi, Kano, Anambra and Delta. In the North, Bauchi zone include Bauchi, Gombe while Kano zone comprised of Kano and Jigawa sates. In the South, the Anambra Zone has two states namely Anambra and Akwa Ibom while Delta Zone includes Delta and Rivers. Of the 9 states, the malaria control program is implemented in 7 states. Calendar of Events During the next few weeks three major events (training of trainers, state workshops and data collection) will be conducted leading to data analysis and report writing. |

State Workshops Three zonal level workshops are planned to train data collectors from the states and LGAs. 141 data collectors and 25 supervisors will take part in the workshop. These workshops will take place concurrently during the week of April 30, 2009 and lasts for 4 days. The number of data collectors and supervisors by state are shown in the graph below. |

Data Collection The data collection will take place over a period of 4 weeks starting from March 30 and ending on April 30, 2009. The schedule of data collection is shown in the table below. |
